Changes in 21st Century Personnel Management
Through the introduction of many facets and methods of management the Fire Service has been faced with many challenges in the management of personnel. Non existent were some of the challenges that we currently face in a time of change and acceptance. The Fire Service is one that has many requirements attached to each and every position, with each position ever evolving to meet the demands of the service, and our culture. There are multiple areas to have proven to be issues in personnel management and of the many we will focus on six. Demographics, Laws, Unions/Labor Management,The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Discipline, and Physical Requirements are all issues that personnel managers are trying to understand and comply with.
This research paper will delineate each with the identification of and potential solution to each as it pertains to personnel management.
Though this is a BS in Fire Service Administration this paper seems to be more focused on Personnel Management issues and resolutions. The Textbook for the class is Fire Service Personnel Management, 3rd Edition, Steven T. Edwards. It does not have to be reference unless of course it is used.
